About 10 years ago, the group Tors Hammare/Thor's Hammer was formed. It is a
constellation that has fanatically clung to the premise that the music of the
collective is more important than its combined components. Everyone or no-one
is the soloist. Jonny Wartel and Lars Larsson - woodwinds; Gunnar Backman -
guitar, banjo and samples: Pål Christensson - double bass: and Henrik
Wartel on drums.
They excavate, in the cellars of their minds, a music that is curious and experimental.
This music uses the breadth and width of tonality, timbre, and their special
"cupboard" of sounds.
Tors Hammare - "Art Species and Other Creatures" - Help CD007/Amigo. Recorded
March 1997 in Karlstad, Sweden. Playing time: 73.24
"Melancholic without any categorical statments. The intensity is below the surface.
it invites one to listen without pre-judgement."
"This is very gifted music that communicates with its audiences and is filled
of joy and musicality. The musicians seem to have total control over their means
of expression."
